Run for fun

I love to run.

Even though I'm having to build my endurance back up, and increase my mileage again, it's fun to me.  It's a hobby.  If being super skinny was my goal, I could stay at home, and do pilates a couple times a week.  But even when it's hard, running is fun.  It's my way to relax, and let off some steam.

It can sometimes be a little discouraging reading about my blogger friends, and their constant 5-10 milers.  But you know what?  I can get there!  In less than three weeks, I've gone from hardly being able to run a mile anymore, to running 3 easily.

Do you run...walk? Do you do yoga?
Why did you pick what you do?

Week 4

Week three of training = complete!  It's been going really, really well.  Now it's on to week 4!

I feel like a sissy training to run only 6 miles, but hey, I gotta start somewhere.  Hopefully after I complete the 10k, I'll work up to even more mileage.  It makes it harder though, that there's pretty much nowhere flat where we run.  Hills, hills, hills.  Feel the burn!  I also like to pretend that I'm finishing some sort of race every time I get back from a run, even if it's only 3 miles, heh heh.  Wait, is that weird?

Random facts:
#1: Every single morning, my breakfast is usually a piece of toast.
#2: I could eat peanut butter every single day for the rest of my life, and never get tired of it.  It flows through my veins.

Week 3

This week is week 3 of my 10K training!  Last week I ran about 3 miles (that included The Hill!), and I felt really good, and could've gone farther.  If I've come this far in about two and a half weeks, I should be able to do the 10K fairly easily!

Week 2 = completed!

 How was everyone's V-day?
I baby sat 3 kids, so parents could go out to a nice supper.  We had a fun time!

Running partners

I so wish I had my camera with me when I went running yesterday.  My brother is usually my only running partner (even though he has to tone it down for me, bless his heart!), but yesterday took the cake!

Occasionally, a little boy or two will run along with us as we go along.  These little African boys can run (plus their cute as a button!)!  They play soccer or do some physical work all day long, and in the evenings they play...soccer together.  So they actually have some pretty serious cardio ability!

Where was I?...Oh yeah.

So yesterday, we were running along, and came upon this group of boys.  There was maybe about three of them.  All the sudden one of them screams out to a nearby house [translated from Swahili into English], "Hurry, come here!  The white people are running, hurry up, Come on!".

Suddenly we have 6 little boys running with us!  I bet we were quite a sight.  We lost one along the way (poor lil' guy), but the 5 stuck with us the entire way!

I really wish I had brought my camera along...that would've been precious.

Week two of 10K training, almost complete!

Me

I thought it was time that I shared just a little about myself!

This is me, Lindsey

I live in Tanzania, East Africa

Panya!
I have the cutest Jack Russell Terrier in existence!  Her name is Panya (pronounced 'Pahn-nyuh'), it means "mouse" in Swahili, which is the language people speak here.

I usually spend way to much time talking about Panya than is probably good for me, but what can I say?!  I love my puppy!
I like reading, cooking, baking, running, yoga, the outdoors, music, swimming, and being with friends

Training

Hi all!  As you might have seen from my last posts, I've started running again.  This year, one of my goals is to run a 10K.  Weeeell, I decided that I needed a schedule to get me to my goal in a good time, so I looked up a beginners training schedule for a 10K.

Tada, here it is!  My only reservations are that I'm running at 5,000ft elevation, on dirt and sand, with big hills...while trying to run farther than I've ever gone.

BUT!

I think I'll be able to do it...just push through the wall!  I'm going to give it my best shot.

Week one - complete!  Uh..and forgive the crazy hair and sunburn... :)

Hooray!

I made it...without stopping!  3.78K without stopping or walking once.

This is the best I've done since a few months ago.  I ran a 5K in August, I think it was, but I haven't been able to run since then.  It's amazing how fast your running power goes out the window if you don't do it regularly\semi-regularly.

The place we run has a huge hill.  It seems almost never- ending...  then it has another hill, though thankfully not as big as the huge one(!), and a long uphill grade.  It's not that steep, just long.

Anyway, this was a big accomplishment for me, since it's the second time I've run in months!
